Lights, Camera, Education!
AFI's Screen Education program is featured in the current edition of the Los Angeles County Office of Education's "Success Stories" publication. The article, "They've Read the Book, Now They're Making the Movie" focuses on how the Screen Education process has been implemented at International Polytechnic High School (I-Poly). AFI Screen Education Director Mitch Aiken was quoted in the article, reflecting on the process and the overall experience with this school. "We have enjoyed our long collaboration with I-Poly, starting when Principal Elsa Martinez, Social Studies teacher Sean Daly and English teacher Lorelei Ortega volunteered to participate in our pilot Screen Education program in 2001. The continued success of the elective has led to I-Poly incorporating the program into the sophomore curriculum as a core component for all students. The class developed 26 films based on the themes of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein this past year.
